TDP bags Kakinada civic body after 30 years

TDP bags Kakinada civic body after 30 years

As expected, the ruling Telugu Desam Party has bagged the prestigious elections to Kakinada Municipal Corporation, counting for which took place on Friday.

Out of 48 divisions that went to polls in KMC, the TDP alone has won 32 seats, while its ally Bharatiya Janata Party has won three seats.

The YSR Congress party, which fielded candidate in all 48 seats, just managed to reach the double figure by winning 10 seats.

While the Congress expectedly drew a blank, three independents gave a rude shock to the main parties by winning the divisions with a big margin.

Needless to say, the TDP will claim credit for the victory of the independents, too, since they are party rebels.

It is for the first time in the last 30 years that the TDP could wrest the Kakinada municipal corporation. All these years, it was being ruled by the Congress party.

The TDP claimed it as a big victory and a referendum on the performance of the three-year old TDP government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu.

YSRC legislator Kona Raghu, participating in a television debate, said there was nothing great in the TDP’s victory, as the local factors played a major role in the elections.
