Power agreements: KCR turns tables on Naidu

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister of Telangana state K Chandrasekhara Rao has proved that he is a perfect match to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu in politicking and administrative skills.

Within hours of the media exposing the Naidu government’s decision to cancel power purchase agreements with certain power producers, the TRS government brought pressure on the Centre to withhold the decision. The cancellation of PPAs would severely affect the power supply position in the Telangana region.

According to official sources, the Centre has asked the Naidu government in AP to put on hold the cancellation of PPAs.

The directive followed a strong letter from the KCR government to the Centre. Following directions from KCR, Telangana chief secretary Rajiv Sarma spoke with Union Energy Department secretary and told him the consequences of the AP government’s decision.

The Energy department, in turn, asked the AP government to maintain status quo till the legal experts gave an advice on that.
