YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is increasingly finding himself at the center of the sensational liquor scam investigation.
According to revelations made during the interrogation of key accused Raj Kasireddy, Jagan’s name has reportedly surfaced prominently — setting off speculation that the coalition government has set its sights firmly on him.
So far, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has identified 29 individuals as accused in the case. With names like Dhanunjay Reddy and Krishna Mohan Reddy — both close aides of Jagan — also coming up, they have already approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
There is a growing perception that the liquor scam probe is being strategically prolonged to influence public opinion.
Allegations are being pushed through media suggesting that the liquor deals were executed under Jagan’s direct instructions.
The intention, critics say, is to prime public sentiment so that any potential arrest does not trigger backlash against the government, but rather appears justified.
Some political observers even believe that arresting Jagan would serve as a symbolic counter to the arrest of Chandrababu Naidu during the previous government, fulfilling a sense of political retribution within the ruling alliance.
According to SIT reports, Raj Kasireddy named Jagan during interrogation, and his statements were documented in the remand report. However, SIT officials informed the court that Raj refused to sign the report, raising further questions about the process.
With the current government holding power, and its target clearly defined, many believe there is no better time to act against Jagan.
The question is no longer if, but when. How such an arrest will reshape Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape remains to be seen.
As the saying goes, power is never permanent. Both Chandrababu and Jagan have experienced the highs and lows of authority.
Now, with the government’s sights set squarely on Jagan, SIT’s actions suggest that the countdown to his arrest may well have begun.
