Fact Sheet: A Victory For AP!

Fact Sheet: A Victory For AP!

The UPA government must have got high-school dropouts to frame the 'AP Reorganization Act'. Certain sections of it just don’t make sense at all.

For instance, the Act states that while the assets of Telangana and AP are to be divided on geographical basis, the liabilities are to be divided on the population ratio of AP and Telangana. What kind of justice is this? This injustice is best illustrated by an example.

Assume that the assets of RTC are Rs 1000 crore and 80% of them are located in Telangana, then AP will get only 20% of the assets. But if RTC has losses of Rs 1000 crore, then on the basis of population, Telangana will bear the burden for only 48% whereas AP will have to bear the burden for 52%.

Clearly, this is highly unfair to AP and extremely convenient to Telangana. As a result, AP is being burdened with liabilities to the tune of nearly Rs 3800 crore.

Chandrababu Naidu has rightfully written a letter to the Union Home Ministry regarding this and the Home Ministry has supported AP’s stand and promised to redress the issue. Finally, a victory for AP.
