Dharna chowk stir: TRS instigated locals?

The agitation by the Opposition parties for restoration of Dharna Chowk near Indira Park on Monday led to violent protests with the alleged instigation of locals by the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

In a clever move, the Telangana police gave permission to the Opposition parties to stage a protest rally at Indira Park against the proposed shifting of Dharna Chowk.

At the same time, the police also gave permission to the locals and members of the Walkers’ Association to stage a counter-dharna demanding that the government shift the Dharna Chowk to ensure peace in the area.

Apparently, the local TRS leaders have organised this counter-protest, on the pretext that the dharnas were creating noise pollution and disturbance in the surroundings.

Surprisingly, during the Telangana agitation, the TRS regularly conducted dharnas and agitations in the same area but after coming to power, the government did not want any agitation to take place against KCR and the ruling TRS.

As a result, clashes erupted with several members of Walkers' Association and the Left party activities attacking each other by hurling stones and chairs at each other.

TJAC leader Prof M Kodandaram alleged that those who pelted stones at the agitators were not locals but police in mufti.

Telangana TDP MLA Revanth Reddy reacted strongly against Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for provoking people against each other.

Citing the visuals in the TV Channels, Revanth Reddy said that few police constables were made to come in civil dress and protest against all parties, for relocation of Dharna Chowk.

Stating that majority wins in a democracy, the TDP MLA said that more people want Dharna Chowk in its original place at Indira Park.
