Amaravati, the non-existent capital of Andhra Pradesh has now been given permission to compete for inclusion in 'Smart City Mission' of the Central government.
It is a part of 13 more cities that had originally been left out. The glaring difference between Amaravati and other cities is that Amaravati as of now exists only on paper.
How then can it be included in the competition? Simple because permission was given by Union Minister Venkayya Naidu who is Urban Development Minister. The only problem is that Chandrababu will trumpet this inclusion as another great achievement of his when there is nothing to show for it on the ground.
What this means is that the few stray buffaloes, cows and goats, the only residents of Amaravati currently will be rechristened as 'smart buffaloes and goats'. Monkeys do not qualify because they are already at the helm of affairs in the State.
