Editorial: PVNR's Legacy Revealed Finally!

The congress party has seen many great leaders in its vicinity and each of them got their own share of credit and recognition but one man has been very instrumental in changing the face of Indian economy and creating a new chapter altogether but he never got his dues. He is our very own P V Narasimha Rao. This forgotten Prime Minister of India was never in the credit list of Congressmen.

However, it has taken another veteran Pranab Mukherjee, the current president of India, to reveal about Rao’s legacy. Every time Rao’s mention was made the infamous Babri Masjid demolition was attributed to him but none of them ever spoke about how Rao ran the minority government successfully for five years, how he roped in a non-politician Manmohan Singh as a Finance Minister and brought a revolution, and how he formulated policies that created economic liberalizations.

All the time, the congress was hamming about Gandhis and Nehrus. Even Rahul Gandhi once mentioned about how if a member of Gandhi family was there before during 1992 the Babri incident would not have happened. Well, many dastardly things happened after that and the Gandhis could not do much about it. But Pranab Da has set the records straight.

He has given total credit of Rao being the architect for India’s ‘Look East’ policy and for making economic reforms which were irreversible. Today, the situation is quite different and Rao’s strategy of ‘not taking a decision is also a decision’ for solutions would have come handy. The challenges that congress faces today is diverse so it would have been interesting to see how Rao would have handled them if he were alive. At the end of the day, it brings a tear of pride to every Telugu person that the legacy created by P V Narasimha Rao finally got recognized after twenty-one long years.
