Telangana too extends lockdown till May 30

A day after the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh announced extension of curfew in the state till May end to contain the spread of Covid-19, the Telangana government followed the suit.

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who spoke to all his cabinet colleagues over phone on Tuesday evening, announced that the lockdown across the state would be extended till May 30.

The Telangana government imposed a 10-day lockdown in the state on May 12 with four-hour relaxation from 6 am to 10 am. The lockdown is scheduled to end on May 22.

In fact, KCR proposed to hold a cabinet meeting on May 20 to review the Covid-19 situation in the state and take a call on the extension of lockdown, but he chose to hold a teleconference with the ministers two days in advance and take their views.

“As the Ministers are busy monitoring the Corona curtailment measures and medical services at the field level, the chief minister cancelled the proposed cabinet meeting on May 20,” An official release from the chief minister’s office said.

The official release said KCR had directed chief secretary Somesh Kumar to issue the orders along with guidelines for extension of lockdown till May 30 immediately.

The Andhra Pradesh government, too, extended the partial lockdown, which ended on Tuesday, till May 30. He told the officials that there should be lockdown for at least four weeks to control the spread of the virus.
