Patients shifted after rains flood Osmania Hospital

A day after heavy rains flooded the century-old Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad causing innumerable hardship to patients including Covid-19 victims, the hospital authorities woke up on Thursday and started rescue operations.

The authorities shifted several patients to the first floor of the hospital, after the wards in the ground floor were completely inundated in rain water.

After the patients were shifted, the hospital sanitation staff and the GHMC personnel cleaned the wards. Disinfectants were sprayed in the wards.

“The patients were shifted with due care to the wards on the first floor in the morning. Water was cleared and until the problem is redressed, the ground floor wards will be closed,” the hospital’s RMO Mohammed Rafi said.

On Wednesday, heavy that lashed Hyderabad inundated the 110-year old OGH. Several videos and images went viral in the social media showing how the corridors and wards were inundated in ankle-deep water. At several places, the water was gushing out of the hospital corridors.

In all six wards, including an ICU, all of which are on the ground floor, were flooded, forcing patients to take refuge on their beds.
