Major Cut In Telangana Staff Salaries!

As is being feared, the Telangana government headed by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday announced massive cut in the salaries of its employees and even pensioners to overcome the revenue loss to the state following Coronavirus spread in the state.

According to an official release from the chief minister’s office, a decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting convened by KCR to review the state’s financial position which plunged into a crisis due to lockdown following Coronavirus scenario.

Accordingly, there would be 75 per cent cut in the salaries of the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues, MLAs, MLCs, chairpersons of various state-level corporations and representatives of urban and rural local bodies.

A 60 per cent cut would be made in the salaries of all India service officers including IAS, IPS and IFS. In the other categories of state government employees, there would be a 50 per cent in their monthly salaries. 

However, in case of Class IV employees like peons, sweepers and drivers, and also outsourced and contract employees, the salary cut would be restricted to 10 per cent.

Similarly, there would be 50 per cent salary cut in the pensions of even retired employees of the state government and 10 per cent in the salaries of retired Class IV employees.

Similar salary cuts would be imposed in the case of employees working in all public sector undertakings and those operating with government grants-in-aid, the official release said.
