KTR to take over as TRS president?

KTR to take over as TRS president?

Soon after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi came to power for a second successive term in December 2018, K T Rama Rao, son of party president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was made the working president of the TRS.

Though there was a talk that KCR would step down as the chief minister within six months and anoint KTR as the next chief minister, it did not happen. Subsequently, too, such speculations continued for long and there was no denial from KTR.

However, a few months ago, KCR made it clear openly that there was no question of handing over power to anybody, including his son and that he would continue to be the chief minister for another 10 years. That put to rest all the speculations.

Now, the latest speculation doing rounds in Telangana political circles is that KCR might step down as the president of the TRS and hand over the party reins completely to KTR.

“There is a talk that KCR will be honorary president or chairman of the TRS, while continuing as the chief minister, KTR will completely take over as the TRS chief,” a source said.

The organisational elections for the TRS were supposed to be held in April, but were deferred due to second wave of Coronavirus pandemic. Now, the process will take place soon after Dasara festival.

KTR told reporters that the nomination process for the presidential election in the TRS would begin on October 17 and continue till October 22.

The scrutiny of nominations would be held on October 23 and withdrawal of nominations would be allowed till the next day.

The meeting of the TRS delegates would be held on October 25 and on the same day, the president of the TRS would get elected.

“The plenary of the TRS would be held under the leadership of the new president at Hitex, which would be attended by around 14,000 delegates,” he said.

The TRS is also planning to hold a massive public meeting – Vijaya Garjana Sabha – to celebrate its two-decades of foundation at Warangal on November 15.

The preparatory meeting of this public meeting would be held on October 27 in all the constituencies.

It remains to be seen whether KTR would file his nomination papers as part of TRS presidential elections or KCR will continue to hold the forte. If KTR files the papers, it is a clear indication that he will take over as the party chief!
