KCR warns Centre against misusing Governors

For the first time, Telangnana Rashtra Samthi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday questioned the institution of Governors in the country which, he alleged, is being misused by the Centre.

Addressing the party plenary at HICC on the occasion of 21st foundation day of the TRS, KCR accused the Centre of playing politics with the state in the name of institution of Governors.

“The system of Governor is not running properly in the state. It appears the Centre has not learnt lessons from the history,” he said.

Without making any direct reference to his government’s confrontation with state Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, the chief minister said the institution of Governors was operating against the spirit of the Constitution.

“In states like West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, the Centre is playing politics,” he alleged.

He recalled that former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh N T Rama Rao had founded a party to serve the people but the then Congress government at the Centre had dethroned him, by misusing the Governor.

“But the Telugu people had fought against this undemocratic practice till NTR was restored to power. The same Governor was sacked unceremoniously. It should have been a lesson for the Central government, but unfortunately, the present rules in Delhi are adopting the same policy of misusing the Governors,” he said.

He warned that the BJP would meet the same fate as that of the Congress in the coming years. If rulers do not go by the Constitutional norms, the people would teach them a fitting lesson, he said.
