The Consulate General of India in Houston has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Chandrasekhar Pole, a student from Hyderabad, who was shot dead in Denton, Texas.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the consulate stated: “The Consulate General of India, Houston, deeply condoles the tragic death of Mr. Chandrasekhar Pole, an Indian student from Hyderabad, who was killed in a shooting incident in Denton, Texas. We are in touch with the family and extending all possible assistance.”
It further noted that local authorities are investigating the case, and that the mission is closely following up with them to ensure all necessary support is provided to the victim’s family.
The Tragic Incident
Chandrasekhar, who had completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India, moved to the United States two years ago to pursue higher studies in Dallas. He had recently completed his postgraduate program and was reportedly working part-time when he was shot dead on Friday night.
His family in Hyderabad has confirmed the tragic news and appealed to both the Central and Telangana governments to expedite the process of repatriating his mortal remains.
Speaking with the media, Chandrasekhar’s mother, Sunitha, said tearfully: “My son went to the US two years ago for higher studies after becoming a dental doctor here. He had just completed his post-graduation. We were informed by his friend’s parents about his death. We request the Indian and state governments to ensure the safety of our students abroad and bring my son’s body back as soon as possible.”
Political Reactions and Condolences
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA and former Telangana Minister T. Harish Rao visited the bereaved family in Hyderabad and expressed his condolences.
In an emotional post on X, he wrote: “It is tragic that Chandra Shekhar Pole, a Dalit student from Nagar who completed BDS and went to America for higher studies, was shot dead by miscreants early in the morning. The pain that the parents are enduring, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is heart-wrenching to witness.”
Harish Rao also urged authorities to take immediate action: “On behalf of BRS, we request the government to take the initiative and ensure that Chandra Shekhar’s mortal remains are brought back to his hometown at the earliest.”
A Disturbing Pattern
This incident comes close on the heels of another tragic case involving the Indian community in Texas. Just last month, Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, a 50-year-old motel manager of Indian origin, was brutally murdered and beheaded in front of his wife and son following a dispute over a washing machine.
These back-to-back tragedies have once again raised concerns about the safety of Indian nationals and students living in the United States, prompting renewed calls for stronger measures to ensure their security abroad.
