Income Tax raid on My Home: What's up?

It is now an open secret that the Modi government has decided to target the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government in Telangana headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Just like the Modi government engineered raids by Central Bureau of Investigation, Income Tax department and Enforcement Directorate on the political rivals of the BJP, including Telugu Desam Party leaders, before the recent elections, it has now started targeting industrialists close to the TRS.

On Thursday, there have been reports of the Income Tax authorities began conducting raids on the offices and residences of My Home Group chairman Jupalli Rameshwar Rao, who has become very close to KCR in the last five years.

Apart from large scale evasion of Income Tax, Rameshwar Rao is also allegedly involved in illegal monetary transactions in the media business, including 10TV and TV9. The investigating authorities are said to be focussing on these aspects, sources said.

Apparently, the BJP government at the Centre has decided to keep an eye on other industrial groups closer to the TRS leadership as well.

It appears the BJP wants to cut down all the monetary links to the TRS by the next elections.

“Hitherto, KCR was trying to trouble the Congress leaders before the last assembly elections by ensuring that they cannot take out their money bags in the elections. Now, the BJP is adopting the same strategy,” a media analyst said.
