GHMC polls: BJP leads in postal ballots, can it sustain?

The counting of votes for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections commenced in almost all the divisions at 8 am with the counting of postal ballots.

Surprisingly, Bharatiya Janata Party has established a clear lead in postal ballots. Till the last reports came in, the BJP gained lead in 82 divisions, TRS in 31 divisions, MIM in 16 divisions and Congress in four divisions.

The State Election Commission has issued 1926 postal ballots this time for those attending election duties and others, including senior citizens aged over 80 years. It indicates these sections are not happy with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

As many as 30 counting centres have been set up across the GHMC limits. As announced by the State Election Commission. For one round, 14000 votes will be counted and 14 tables have been arranged in each counting hall.

In all, 8152 personnel are engaged in the counting exercise and 31 observers are monitoring the proceedings.

Out of 74,67,256 votes in GHMC, 34,50,331 votes have been polled and officials said the results will be announced mostly by afternoon or late evening.
