From attack to appeal, TRS changes stand on Centre

Till the other day, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi used to make strong criticism of the Narendra Modi government for showing step-motherly attitude towards the state in releasing funds for various projects.

On many occasions, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made a scathing attack on the Modi government for not releasing a single rupee towards Kaleshwaram, Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha programmes.

His son and TRS working president K T Rama Rao also accused the Centre of not granting a single paisa towards flood relief works in the rain-ravaged areas of Hyderabad.

He even said the BJP leaders should stop talking about the Centre-giving-state-taking of funds, because it was public money.

But now, the TRS government appears to have changed its tune after the loss in the recent Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

KCR went all the way to Delhi to submit memorandums to the Prime Minister and Union home minister Amit Shah seeking funds to various projects.

On Wednesday, KTR too, wrote a letter to Union minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goel, requesting that the Centre made special allocation of funds in the coming Union budget for various projects in Telangana.

He wanted allocation of special funds for projects such as Hyderabad Pharma City, NIMZ (Zaheerabad), National Design Centre (NDC), and setting up of Industrial Corridor in Telangana.

Not only that, he thanked the Union minister for including Hyderabad – Warangal, and Hyderabad – Nagpur Industrial Corridors by National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) and for considering funding the initial two nodes for the Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) and National Industrial Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), Zaheerabad.

The estimated project cost for taking infrastructure development in these two nodes is about Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 crores respectively.

He said the TRS government was very keen to take up the development of these two projects on a fast-track basis.

He requested the Union Minister to allocate funds to the extent of at least 50 per cent of the project cost in the budget estimates for 2021-22.
