ED did not name KCR in Delhi liquor scam case!

Since Tuesday morning, digital and electronic media channels have been flashing news that the Enforcement Directorate had taken the name of Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in its arguments in the Delhi liquor scam cases.

These reports claimed that the ED had pointed out that Kavitha had discussed every aspect of the Delhi liquor scam case with her father and that KCR had given guidance to her from time to time in dealing with the case.

The ED’s arguments are said to be based on certain alleged statements made by Raghav Magunta, son of Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, before the Enforcement Directorate in the case under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

In the evening, Kavitha’s counsel Mohit Rao clarified that there was no mention of KCR’s name anywhere in the ED arguments.

“Some overexcited media outlets have published wrong news that KCR’s name has appeared in ED’s arguments. We condemn this fake news,” he said.

He said the Enforcement Directorate placed reliance on a statement of Raghav Magunta allegedly recorded under Section 50 of PMLA, etc. wherein, he has alleged that he had paid Rs 25 crore in cash to Abhishek Boinpally and Buchi Babu as per the agreement between Kavitha, himself and his father Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy.

“According to the statement, this cash transfer took place on two occasions - March 28, 2021, when Rs.10 crore in cash was delivered by Raghav Magunta’s staff Gopi Kumaran to an address given by Buchi Babu in Chennai and in June 2021, an amount of Rs 15 crore in cash which was also delivered by Gopi Kumaran to an address given by Abhishek Boinpally,” Mohit said.

Under no circumstances Raghav Magunta ever made any statement which has been produced by ED before any court that K Kavitha has allegedly introduced her father to other accused and all of them met at her father’s residence at New Delhi, he clarified.
