Opinion: #BoycottBollywood Vs Dalit Boy's Death

The nation is technically governed by the Government but emotionally ruled by social media. A group of people are instigating something with their hashtags and the mainstream media is taking a feed out of it giving larger space to a cornered nuisance.

A small group of netizens started a hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha as Aamir Khan made some statement about the intolerance among Indians sometime ago.

Eventually another group started #BoycottHrithikRishan only for the reason that he watched Laal Singh Chaddha. Is this not silly crap? But the frightening thing is that the mainstream media and the most popular media houses gave space to this dumbness and ignored the gruesome killing of dalit boy by a teacher for drinking water from a pot. Not many know about this like they know about #BoycottBollywood. This Is another hashtag to downsize the Hindi film industry for making continuous flops.

On the other hand Covid 19 has taken a toll of 10 people in Delhi and the infections are increasing in number. Who has the attention span to spread Covid-19 awareness? The media is running behind TRPs and the people have no sense of responsibility in any corner.

Sometime ago a small group of netizens started a rift between Ram Charan and Allu Arjun with their tweets. That was made popular by some youtube channels and eventually became bigger.

Media can serve something that satiates the taste buds of its readers and viewers. But that doesn't mean that it can ignore the most important aspects happening around. The main responsibility of the media is to sensitize people first before entertaining them. This is totally missing from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
