Hyderabad: YSR Congress has demanded to take stringent action against those involved in the Rishiteshwari suicide case and to cancel the licence of the Narayana Group of Colleges which have witnessed a spate of suicides in the recent past.
‘The State has been trying to shield Principal Babu Rao as the cabinet did not approve the inquiry committee report which shows that bigwigs are being protected by the government. This apart there are a spate of suicides in the Narayana Group of colleges which need thorough investigation and the cancellation of the licence of the Group,’ party MLA RK Roja told reporters here on Monday.
‘It was reportedly mentioned in the Subrahmanyam Committee Report that the Principal Babu Rao is liable to be booked under provisions of Anti-ragging, Nirbhya and Sexual harassment Acts but the State is silent on the issue and cattiest politics are playing a dirty role in the Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU),’ she said.
‘We demand that the inquiry report should be adopted by the cabinet and action should be taken immediately by arresting the Principal, who has perpetrated the offence. It is unfortunate that the DGP JV Ramudu remarked that there is no evidence against the Principal to arrest him. It is for the Department to procure evidence and bring the culprits to book.
A day after the State minister has boasted that the parents of the victim have thanked the Government for its investigation, the parents have written a letter to the Chief Minister in detail of the suicide and sought proper investigation which would keep the morale of the other girl students high,’ she said.
Nearly 11 students have committed suicide in the recent past in the Narayana Group of Colleges but not action was taken so far. When our Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy went the native place of a girl who committed suicide, injuries were visible on her body and when he sought for a re-autopsy, the officials cremated the body in a hurry and did not bury, deviating from the custom, as the question of exhuming the body may not arise.
The State has scant respect towards women and even as 11 girl students committed suicide in the same group not a single word is uttered from the Government side. We demand that State should order a thorough inquiry into the 11 suicides of students in Narayana group of Colleges and cancel the licence of the Narayana group besides arresting the guilty,’ she said.
