Jagan keeps options open on post-2014 alliances

The YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy appears to be keeping his options open on the question of whom to support at the Centre after the 2014 general elections.

Launching an indefinite fast to protest against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan sought the help of Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi in reversing the decision to divide AP.

At the same time, he seems to be keeping options open as far alliance with the national parties after the 2014 elections.

Speaking to an English news channel, he said that he would seek the support of BJP and its leader Narendra Modi, in the fight for the cause of united Andhra Pradesh.

At the same time Jagan said that “regardless of the bifurcation decision, alliance with secular forces at the national level, on the lines of parties like SP and JD(U)” is very much possible.

He sought the help of Rahul Gandhi too. “We know what happened to the ordinance on protecting convicted legislators after Rahul Gandhi intervened. He can do a similar thing here.”

As part of his fight against Centre’s decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh, Jagan is planning to approach Supreme Court apart from the fast-unto-death he has undertaken.

Jagan took exception to the Cabinet decision as it has not called for a resolution from Andhra Pradesh Assembly.

Pitching for Seemandhra’s stake on Hyderabad, he disagreed with the CWC resolution and the latest Cabinet decision, which called for making Hyderabad a common capital for ten years and then the residual Andhra Pradesh having to decide its capital.

He demanded the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu to write a letter to the Centre saying that he stands for united Andhra Pradesh. This demand is being seen as his bid to appropriate the political platform for Samaikyandhra fight.
