Rs 425 for 1 Km? Bengaluru Auto Fare Shocks Commuters

A Bengaluru resident has gone viral after ranting about “shocking” cab fares during heavy rain.

Posting on Reddit’s r/bangalore, the user revealed that Uber quoted a staggering ₹425 for a 1 km auto ride, while a car ride for the same distance showed up at ₹364.

“Yesterday night while it was raining, my friend tried to book an auto as he was going to his hometown and the fares were just shocking. He simply ditched the plan, grabbed an umbrella, and walked,” the user wrote.

The post sparked outrage and amusement online.

Some compared Bengaluru’s prices to “first-world countries,” pointing out that taxi rides in Germany cost nearly the same. Others joked that it was “the perfect time to buy an auto.”

Another quipped: “These fares are almost the same as what I pay for Uber in the US.”

Bengaluru has long been infamous for sky-high fares, “auto mafias,” and nightmarish traffic.

With over 13 million residents and millions of vehicles crammed onto narrow roads, the city’s infrastructure struggles to keep pace with its booming IT hub status.

Even metro expansions and traffic apps haven’t eased the chaos, leaving many residents stuck paying eye-watering fares - or, like this Redditor’s friend, simply walking.
