How UP's Mafia Empire Ended In 50 Days?

Atiq Ahmed, who famously declared "Hum Toh Mitti Mein Mil Gaye" after the death of his son Asad Ahmed in a police encounter, has now met the same fate along with his brother Ashraf.

The gangster-turned-politician's downfall was aided by the Yogi Adityanath-led government's aggressive measures to dismantle his gang and seize their assets.

Government officials claim to have confiscated properties and assets worth Rs 1,400 crore belonging to Atiq and his associates, all of which were acquired through criminal means.

Additionally, the Enforcement Directorate has exposed over Rs 100 crore in assets and uncovered 50 shell companies that Atiq and his gang allegedly used to launder their illegal earnings.

The situation for Atiq's family is dire - his two elder sons are in jail, his third son Asad is deceased, his two minor sons are in juvenile custody, and his wife Shaista Parveen is on the run.

The ED has also targeted several of Atiq's close associates, including a lawyer, accountant, real-estate businessman, former BSP MLA, builder, and car showroom owner, who have been implicated in Atiq's "business."

These individuals have been summoned for questioning.

Despite facing over 100 criminal cases dating back to 1979, Atiq had always managed to secure bail and evade conviction. However, the UP government's recent efforts have brought him and his gang to justice.
