The stature of senior YSRCP leader and Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy has become even more evident after his arrest and remand in the liquor scam case.
His popularity among the people and respect within the party remain intact, proving that influential leaders always command recognition.
Mithun Reddy, arrested by SIT officials in connection with the liquor case, has been lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail for over 50 days.
Out of the 12 accused arrested, he is the only one currently in Rajahmundry.
Interestingly, YSRCP leaders from across the state — from Anantapur to Srikakulam — have been lining up to meet him regularly.
On average, two to three meetings take place each week, and apart from family members, it is mostly party leaders who are visiting him.
Almost every leader who meets him comes out and tells the media that Mithun Reddy is in high spirits.
Though there were reports of initial inconvenience due to pressure from the ruling establishment regarding jail facilities, Mithun’s confidence has not wavered.
His mother even broke down earlier, alleging that her son was being denied proper amenities inside the jail.
The fact that YSRCP leaders continue to queue up at Rajahmundry Central Jail to meet him shows the strong grip Mithun Reddy still has within the party.
Party leaders insist he is being targeted only because of his close association with former CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Despite facing cases and imprisonment, Mithun has made it clear through his actions that he will not abandon Jagan.
For Jagan, such loyal leaders are crucial for his political future, and Mithun’s popularity among his constituency further strengthens that bond.
Locals even say that after Jagan, Mithun is the only leader who truly cares for party workers. Ironically, his arrest has only highlighted his importance within the party.
Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders allege that SIT officials are deliberately creating obstacles to delay his bail and keep him behind bars.
They point out that even after 50 days of arrest, the SIT has filed a petition seeking custody again, raising suspicions about political motives.
