Time and again, people continue to be duped by electing film stars and sportspersons who enter politics and prove to be absolute imbeciles in the real world.
And political parties try to cash in on their popularity by fielding them in elections and nominating them to Parliament. Do these film stars and sportspersons even care?
For example, Mohammad Azharuddin, a convicted match-fixer and banned from the sport is a Parliamentarian making laws for the people of India. And does Nagma, even know the capitals of the many States in India?
What is it that Sachin Tendulkar has done as an MP for India? Has he even bothered to attend Parliament? And surely, the BJP deserves a tight little slap for thrusting an absolutely stupid and insensitive person like Hema Malini on the people.
Hours after violent clashes ripped through Mathura, the constituency of parliamentarian Hema Malini, which left 24 people dead including 2 police officers, the actor-politician from the BJP tweeted photos of a film shoot at Madh Island in Mumbai.
Hema Malini, 67, deleted the photos and then left Mumbai for Mathura, but seemed nonplussed by accusations of both insensitivity and deep negligence of her constituency in its hour of need.
"What do I have to do (with it)," she asked in Delhi en route to Mathura, 160 kilometres away. "Our people are there, Akhilesh Yadav's government has to handle this," she said.
"How do I know this is going to happen? I went for a shoot," she said. The Lok Sabha MP from Mathura appeared to have missed the news of the searing violence as well as the urgent requirement to rush there.
"I am an artiste, I committed myself to do some shooting," she said of her delayed journey to her constituency.
Incidentally, Hema Malini displayed the same apathy when her Mercedes Benz crashed into an Alto car coming from the opposite direction resulting in the death of a toddler.
If Akhilesh Yadav’s government was going to take care of things, why the feck did she contest for the constituency in the first place? If she considers herself to be an artiste still committed to do some shooting, why did she enter politics at all? Is politics a part-time job for this woman?
When will people wake up and realize that celebrities need politics because it is the only arena where they can continue to stay relevant and earn big money even when they are well beyond their 40’s and 50’s?
