“During the days of the Telangana movement, there used to be talk about discrimination between Telangana and Seemandhra. It is not the case anymore since we have achieved the statehood for Telangana and whoever is living in Telangana is a citizen of Telangana. As the chief minister, it is my responsibility to ensure safety and security to all. And I assure that I will fulfill my responsibility.” These are the latest words of KCR.
And ironically, they caused a great deal of amusement and indifference among Seemandhra people in Hyderabad for they knew that the reason for KCR’s change of heart was the upcoming GHMC elections in which Seemandhra vote will play a very major role.
But there could be a bigger reason for KCR’s change of stance.
As of now, the responsibility for law and order in Hyderabad is vested in the Governor.
TRS does not have a lot of support in Hyderabad, a city which is way too cosmopolitan to subscribe to politics of hatred.
And recently cops of AP and Telangana came to blows at Nagarjuna Sagar over the issue of water sharing.
A repeat of such incidents coupled with the lack of support from the public by and large could once again raise the issue of Hyderabad being made a Union Territory.
And if that were to happen, the T-agitation would have been in vain for all said and done, KCR’s self-respect on which he based his agitation was directly proportional to the revenues of Hyderabad!
Hence, the man has tempered down a lot of late. He has to! There is no other way out for him.
