What made Rayapati to meet PM?

It has been a long time since one has seen Telugu Desam Party MP from Narsaraopet Rayapati Sambasiva Rao being actively involved in the party politics.

Though the TDP MPs have been creating ruckus inside and outside Parliament over demanding special category status to Andhra Pradesh for the last few days, Rayapati was nowhere to be seen in the action.

He has been keeping himself away from media glare and has not been making any statements before the media, as he used to do in the past.

So, when Rayapati met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening, it naturally evoked a lot of curiosity in the media and the political circles.

He told media later that he had met the Prime Minister only to invite him to the marriage of his granddaughter to be held sometime this month.

“At the same time, I also explained to him several problems confronting my constituency and requested him to release funds for the water grid project. As such, there is no political significance to the meeting,” Rayapati said.

However, inquiries revealed that Rayapati had tried to join the BJP in the past, but his entry is being strongly resisted by Andhra BJP president Kanna Lakhsminarayana.

At the same time, Rayapati is not sure of getting the TDP ticket once again in 2019. So, he tried to use his clout in Delhi to meet Modi and get his nod to join the BJP, sources said.
