What Happened Vizag Land Scam?

What Happened Vizag Land Scam?

Whenever a big scam is brought to light, media makes it a big issue and chases the story for a few days and the opposition parties, too, make a hue and cry for a few months.

The government will order a so-called “high level” inquiry with top police officials and everybody will become calm. Subsequently, the issue is completely forgotten.

It happens in every state – whether it is Miyapur land scam in Telangana or Visakhapatnam land scam in Andhra Pradesh.

Coming to the sensational Vizag land scam, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the allegations of land grabbing, submitted its final report to the government through Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police on January 29.

So far, nobody knows what is there in the report and what action the government is going to take. The officials are sitting over the report on the pretext of examining the report, even as the land-scam victims are alleging that the government is ‘backing the culprits’.

Sources say the report contains names of many TDP as also of some YSRCP leaders. So, both the parties do not want the report to be disclosed, since they don’t want any controversy during the election year.

The SIT received a large number of complaints. To be precise, it received around 2,875 complaints against several illegal encroachments, tampering, forgery of revenue lands etc.

Out of these, the SIT team focused on 336 complaints, including the 69 related to land NOC issues. Most of the complaints were in connection with land encroachments in Vizag (rural), Gajuwaka and Bhimili mandals.
