The Opposition YSRCP alleged that the Vijayawada has turned into a ‘crime capital’ of Andhra Pradesh after Naidu shifted here from Hydreabad and made his seat of governance.
The party demanded a high level inquiry into the call money racket that came to light in Vijayawada. He party felt that the racket has the backing of ruling TDP leaders.
"Vijayawada city, which is now Chandrababu’s seat of governance has turned into a crime capital. The crime rate in Vijayawada has increased sharply after Naidu began his operations here. The Call Money racket has pushed gullible women, who took loans at a high interest rate and are unable to pay, into sex racket," YSRCP spokesperson Vasireddy Padma said. reporters on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Padma said, "Women, housewives and students have become victims of this racket which lends money for their dire needs and later exploits them sexually. This racket has the backing of the ruling party and efforts are on to save the TDP leaders involved in the racket. We demand a high-level inquiry to find out the truth," she said.
The exploitation has being going on unabated as the Chief Minister had asked officials to keep off the party cadre.
The incidents like MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar being let off even after he attacked a woman Tehsildar emboldened such racketeers, she said.
PAC member Samineni Uday Bhanu has said that the racketeers has the backing of political bigwigs and MLAs and MLCs besides local cadre of the TDP. They are involved in setting up arches and banners whenever Chandrababu or other dignitaries visit the area, she alleged.
