Unlock: Will People Learn Any Lessons?

Unlock: Will People Learn Any Lessons?

As the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic shows signs of subsiding, the state governments across the country have started easing lockdown restrictions to facilitate the normal life.

The Telangana government went a step ahead and announced complete lifting of lockdown from Sunday.

It even announced commencement of schools on full scale with effect from July 1 and even suggested that the students could attend offline classes.

In Andhra Pradesh, too, only 12-hour night curfew will be in force from June 21 till June 30 and all the restrictions have been lifted during the morning hours.

Now, the onus of preventing the spread of Covid-19 has been left on the people.

The governments have asked them to follow the Covid-19 norms like wearing of masks, maintenance of physical distancing and using of sanitisers. They gave a note of caution that the people’s cooperation is must to avoid Covid-19.

But are the people ready to follow them? Even during the lockdown period, one could notice the people blatantly violating the restrictions and even defying the lockdown norms. When everything is opened up, do they really take precautions?

Very soon, there will be reopening of shopping centres, malls, restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, gyms and other places of public gathering like markets, cinema theatres, public parks, recreation centres, tourist spots and places of worship.

The public transport systems like RTC buses, trains, metro rail services etc will also be opened up for people. So, there will be huge rush in these systems. Who will have control over them?

In the wake of reports of a possible third wave of Coronavirus, it is essential that the people should take care of themselves, rather than blaming the government for not providing them enough healthcare facilities.

The recent second wave, which claimed thousands of lives and left lakhs of people hospitalised, should be an eye-opener for them. If they don’t protect ourselves by taking precautions, nobody can save them.
