The death of Devineni Nehru has come as a real blow to his son Devineni Avinash. Apart from the sorrow of having lost his father, the young man is also now on the back foot politically.
Nehru was a strongman who could command ear and thereby respect in Vijayawada irrespective of the Party he was in.
A bitter critic of Chandrababu Naidu, he sailed with Rajasekhar Reddy after the death of NTR. But following bifurcation, with Congress becoming a non-entity in AP, he went back to the TDP only for the political future of his son Avinash. But his death now leaves Avinash in the wilderness in the TDP.
Nehru’s younger brother Bachi Prasad and his sons had joined the TDP much earlier. With Nehru no longer around, will Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao and Bachi Prasad show the same kind of interest in Avinash?
Will the promises made to Nehru at the time of his joining the TDP be honored by Chandrababu?
