Telugu Man To Contest Assam Polls

Many IAS officers have often taken the plunge into active politics with differing results.

Officers from Andhra Pradesh are no exception and one name that immediately comes to mind is Dr Jayaprakash Narayan who founded the Lok Satta Party and won as an MLA from Kukatpally.

In Assam, there is another Telugu officer who is likely to make his political debut.

Assam’s former additional Chief Secretary MGVK Bhanu might contest the elections on Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) party or BJP ticket from Tezpur.

Bhanu was one of the most powerful bureaucrats in Assam during the Chief Ministership of Tarun Gogoi from 2011-2016.

Bhanu who retired recently has settled down in Tezpur and had undertaken a major beautification project of the town when he was posted there earlier.

He is a 1985-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh and named one of the top five bureaucrats in the country in terms of influence prior to his retirement.
