TDP To Invoke Special Status In K'taka Polls?

The Telugu Desam Party seems to be hell bent on defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka elections at any cost.

While there have already been reports and allegations by the BJP leaders that TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is secretly arranging funds to the Congress party candidates in the constituencies in Karnataka where the BJP is giving a tough fight, the latest talk is that Naidu is also planning to take the fight on special category status to AP to Karnataka as well.

He is understood to have asked his party functionaries to distribute the copies of the booklet published by the TDP on betrayal of the state by the BJP, among all the Telugu speaking people in Karnataka.

The party supporters would also extensively take the issue of special category status among the Telugu voters.

“We may not directly campaign for the Congress party or against the BJP, but we shall definitely explain to the people about the betrayal of AP by the Centre. We shall leave it to the people to decide. We shall allow the word of mouth do the work,” a party leader said.

The TDP hopes to influence Telugu voters in at least 40 out of 225 Assembly seats in Karnataka that border the three Rayalaseema districts and in a considerable chunk of Telugu voters in Bengaluru.

“Under any circumstances, we shall see that the BJP will not come to power in Karnataka,” the TDP leader said.
