TDP leader joins YSRCP, Dharmana may join Jana Sena?

The YSR Congress party, which is planning to go aggressive against the Telugu Desam Party-led coalition government, has received a shot in the arm with the joining of senior TDP leader Sugavasi Balasubrahmanyam from Kadapa into the YSRCP.

At the same time, the party received reports from Srikakulam that its senior leader and former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao is planning to quit the YSRCP and join the Jana Sena Party headed by Pawan Kalyan.

Sugavasi, who recently announced his resignation from the TDP joined YSRCP in the presence of party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli.

Son of former MP and former MLA Sugavasi Palakondrayudu, Sugavasi said his family, which had been associated with TDP for over four decades, decided to quit the party as they could no longer tolerate the humiliation and internal politics within it.

He stated that they have chosen to stand with Jagan Mohan Reddy for the welfare of the people and to uphold their self-respect.

Balasubrahmanyam has been active in politics since 1995, serving as ZPTC member from Rayachoti and as Chairman of the undivided Kadapa Zilla Parishad in 2000.

He was re-elected as Rayachoti ZPTC in 2001. He contested the Rayachoti by-election in 2012 on a TDP ticket but lost, and again contested unsuccessfully as the TDP MLA candidate from Rajampet in 2024.

On the other hand, reports from Srikakulam said Dharmana Prasada Rao, who has been keeping away from the YSRCP activities for the last one year, is likely to join the Jana Sena Party along with his son Dharman Ram Manohar Naidu.

Though Dharmana had earlier announced that he would keep away from active politics, latest reports indicate that he would continue in the politics by joining the Jana Sena Party. He, however, is keen on promoting his son as his political heir.

In fact, there were reports earlier that Dharmana was contemplating joining the TDP, but he dropped the plan due to stiff resistance from Kinjarapu family, which holds significant influence over TDP in the Srikakulam region.

“The father-son duo might join the Jana Sena in a week or two,” sources said.
