TDP, allies demand sacking of DGP, Intelligence chief

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and its alliance partners in Andhra Pradesh – the Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party – demanded the immediate dismissal of Director General of Police K. V. Rajendranath Reddy and a few other top police officials for allegedly conspiring against the NDA public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district on Sunday.

TDP leader Varla Ramaiah and others met with the chief electoral officer of Andhra Pradesh, M. K. Meena, and submitted a representation, urging that the concerned police officials be relieved of their duties until the election process is completed to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections.

In addition to the DGP, the NDA allies held Additional DGP (intelligence) P. S. R. Anjaneyulu, Inspector General (Guntur range) G. Pala Raju, and Palnadu Superintendent of Police Ravi Sankhar Reddy responsible for the failure to implement proper security arrangements at the Chilakaluripet meeting, resulting in chaos.

They alleged that the police authorities had failed to make adequate security arrangements, displaying noticeable stubbornness and reluctance. The police miserably failed to control the crowds and manage the traffic, leading to disruptions during the Prime Minister's speech,” they said.

They further alleged that the power supply was intentionally cut off for nearly 11 minutes, allegedly at the behest of the ruling YSRCP to disrupt the meeting.

The NDA allies also claimed that the police had not allowed bouquets, shawls, and mementos to be presented to Modi by TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and JSP chief Pawan Kalyan, despite SPG scanning and approval.

Additionally, they accused the police of not taking action when the public was seen roaming in the D-Zone before the stage, which is designated as a sterile zone as per security norms.

“It appears that the local police, in collusion with the ruling YSRCP, had deliberately planned to sabotage the meeting, which was attended by huge crowds,” they alleged.

They further accused the police of creating obstacles for the public, including VIPs, to reach the rally venue, causing heavy traffic jams. The police allegedly deliberately stopped many vehicles on both sides of the national highway, forcing the public to walk for kilometers under the scorching sun to reach the meeting.
