Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is no stranger to controversy as he often makes the Ruling Party the butt of his comedy.
He doesn’t spare industrialists either and his online spat with Ola founder Bhavesh Agawal is folklore now.
Kunal has come out with a video recently in which his claims against the BJP government drain the humour out of anyone.
Referring to the Indian purchase of Russian oil at highly discounted prices, Kunal says it is only the Ambanis who have benefitted from it.
“India buys the oil from India which is refined by Ambani and then sold to countries which cannot buy the oil directly from Russia because of the US imposed sanctions. The befit is entirely to Ambani and does not accrue to the Indian public. But in China which also purchases discounted oil from Russia, the lesser price is passed on to the public,” says Kunal.
He also accused Ambani of getting a special Bill passed which would henceforth not tax windfall profits to firms like Reliance in future.
Kunal in other words is reiterating what US Trade Advisor Peter Navarro said recently that ‘Brahmins are profiteering at the expense of the Indian people’.
Of course, when he said Brahmins, he did not mean a caste or community. Brahmins are the highest caste in India and highly privileged until 1947.
In the West, gradually, the term Brahmin came to be associated with a huge mogul or conglomerate. Navarro had used the word in that context.
Whether Kunal Kamra is right or wrong, one cannot help admire his courage in openly taking on a man like Ambani and of course, the ruling dispensation.
