That our media persons in the vernacular press are incorrigible and ignorant was proved once again on Monday.
For the last couple of days, the media has been making unnecessary controversies over the nativity and caste of P V Sindhu, ace badminton star and Olympics silver medallist.
Some section of media tried to claim that she is an out and out Telanganite, while others sought to prove that her parents from Andhra and hence, she is Andhra ammayi.
As a matter of fact, both Andhra and Telangana chief ministers N Chandrababu Naidu and K Chandrasekhar Rao, too, tried to play politics with her regional status by announcing financial incentives.
On Monday, when Sindhu addressed a press conference, a journalist from a Telugu newspaper, asked her without any inhibition, as to whether she belonged to Telangana or Andhra.
A visibly embarrassed Sindhu put up a broad smile and just nodded to indicate that she would not like to answer the question. But her coach Pullela Gopichand was quick to come to her rescue and said Sindhu is an Indian and she represented the country at the Olympics.
Needless to say, the journalist had to shut his mouth.
