Set right your own accounts, Mr Modi!

The Telugu Desam Party on Thursday gave a strong retort to the allegations levelled by Bharatiya Janata Party official spokesman and MP G V L Narasimha Rao on the submission of accounts for the funds released by the Centre under various schemes.

“We submitted all the relevant utilisation certificates to various central government departments and no department has ever said they were not genuine. How can GVL say they are false?” asked AP State Planning Board deputy chairman Ch Kutumba Rao.

He alleged that the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had in fact pointed out that as many as 18 central government departments had not produced any utilisation certificates and there were no accounts for Rs 84,000 crore collected in the form of education cess.

“First set right your own accounts and then talk about our accounts,” Rao told the Centre.

He also accused the Centre of diverting funds belonging to Narmada Nigam Limited for the construction of Sardar Patel statue in Gujarat.

“The construction of statue was given to a foreign company. Why? Don’t we have sculptors in India?” he asked.

On the advertisements given by the Centre on Dholera city in Telugu newspapers, Andhra Pradesh finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said it clearly showed the panicky reaction of the Centre on the charges made by the TDP in Mahanadu.

“It is clear case of distortion of facts. The Centre is funding the Dholera project. It is like rubbing salt on the wounds of Telugu people,” Yanamala said.
