There is a distinct lack of public enthusiasm for the public meeting being organized by the YSR Congress Party in Hyderabad on Oct 26 in support of the cause of united Andhra Pradesh.
It is becoming difficult for the organizers to mobilize people from Seemandhra region for the meeting christened as "Samaikya Sankaraavam".
The heavy rains lashing several parts of the state have proved to be a dampener for the prestigious event, the first political show of strength being organized by the YSRCP after the release of its president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy from jail on bail.
The people in Seemandhra have been subjected to several hardship for the last two and half months due to continuous agitations and now the Nature's fury in the form of heavy rains.
The standing crops in the region are facing total damage while communications and public transport are severely disrupted.
The South Central Railways has rescheduled and diverted several trains due to torrential rains. In this backdrop, the YSRCP's political show in Hyderabad may not attract the kind of crowds that it is expected.
The people in general are wary of participating in the agitations as their source of livelihood has been severely hit due to frequent shutdowns and other hardships.
Moreover, the pro-Telangana student groups have threatened to disrupt the public meeting. This has made people in Seemandhra wary of travelling to the state capital.
On their part, the city police have made necessary arrangements for the meeting for which the high court has given a conditional go-ahead.
The additional police forces, including 16 companies of Central paramilitary forces, 34 platoons of APSP (Andhra Pradesh Special Police), 1,800 civil forces, besides city police personnel will be deployed for the meet to ensure that no untoward incident happens.
