If the reports from the corridors of the NTR Trust Bhavan are to be believed, former Union Minister A Sai Pratap might replace present Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary in the Rajya Sabha very soon.
According to these reports, Sai Pratap had taken a plunge into the Telugu Desam Party only after getting an assurance from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that he would be given Rajya Sabha ticket from Andhra Pradesh in the ensuing elections in June.
Indications are that Naidu might not field Sujana Chowdary for a second term in Rajya Sabha polls, because of the strong cases of money laundering against him.
Moreover, Naidu is not happy with the way Sujana is acting independently in New Delhi, hobnobbing with the BJP leaders and ignoring the TDP activities in Delhi.
By sending Sai Pratap to Rajya Sabha, Naidu is also seeking to appease the Kapu community, which has been up in arms against the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh for dodging on the demand for inclusion of Kapus in the BC list.
After the Mudragada Padmanabham’s agitation, Naidu has been trying every trick to divide the Kapus and inclusion of Sai Pratap is said to be part of his divide-and-rule strategy.
One won’t be surprised if Sai Pratap will be back in the Union Cabinet in place of Sujana very soon!
