Firebrand actress-turned-politician R K Roja has mastered the art of attracting people with sharp comments, though many times, she crossed her limits in making statements.
On Tuesday, Roja issued a statement expressing her condolences over the death of Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa after prolonged illness.
She said Jaya was a great leader who had come up in life after undergoing a lot of troubles and facing a lot of humiliations.
At the same time, Roja compared Jayalalithaa with late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. She said while YSR was fondly called by the people as “anna,” Jaya was referred to as “Amma” by the people of Tamil Nadu.
“Both of them had untimely death, when they were doing a lot for the people. Good people always had a short life,” she lamented.
She recalled that Jayalalithaa had even attended her marriage.
“She used to like me a lot. And I was feeling as if I was a member of her family. Whenever I met her, she used to speak with me in Telugu,” Roja said.
