Potti Sriramulu Didn't Sacrifice His Life For Andhra?

Potti Sriramulu Didn't Sacrifice His Life For Andhra?

Political leaders should think twice before talking in public.  They should be thoroughly prepared on what they have to talk about in public, since any wrong statement that goes into people cannot be taken back so easily.

Generally, Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is very cautious in speaking in public.

Unlike his son Nara Lokesh, who has been providing enough fodder to the netizens to troll him because of his poor articulation skills, Naidu rarely fumbles in his public speeches.

But of late, Naidu, too, has started making goofs-up in his speeches with factually wrong statements.

On Saturday, when he was addressing the gathering at Kadapa Zilla Parishad gorunds where he called on TDP MP C M Ramesh who had been indefinite fast demanding establishment of Kadapa steel plant, Naidu shocked everybody with his poor historic knowledge.

Recalling those who had undertaken fast to achieve their goals, Naidu pointed out how Potti Sreeramulu took up fast to achieve separation of Andhra from Madras Presidency.

“He went on fasting for several days and withdrew it only after the Centre granted separate Andhra Pradesh state,” he said.

It was shocking to many. Even a school student who studies history can tell that Potti Sreeramulu did not withdraw his fast, but died because of his indefinite fast for 56 days, forcing the then Nehru government to announce separation of Andhra state from Madras presidency in 1953.

In fact, it was Andhra state and not Andhra Pradesh as claimed by Naidu, as AP was formed on November 1, 1956, following the recommendations of the Fazl Ali Commission.

Naidu also made another fumbling in his speech. He said Kadapa area had 263 million units of iron ore, instead of saying 263 metric tonnes. Of course, he corrected himself immediately!
