Ace badminton player and silver medallist in Rio Olympics P V Sindhu will soon be appointed as sub-collector in Andhra Pradesh government.
An announcement to this effect was made by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in the assembly on Tuesday.
The assembly passed a legislation amending the employment act to give special permission for the appointment of Sindhu as sub-collector.
Naidu said Sindhu had made the entire country and Andhra Pradesh proud with her stupendous performance in Olympics and various other international tournaments.
“We have promised her that she would be appointed as a Group-1 officer and we are fulfilling this promise now,” he said.
It may be mentioned that in February this year, Sindhu formally gave consent to the offer given by the AP government for being appointed as Group-1 officer. At that time, there was a talk that she would be appointed directly as Deputy Collector.
The 21-year-old shuttler has been working with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) since 2013 and is currently an assistant manager (sports) at its Hyderabad office.
