Nandyal: Fresh headache for Naidu

After Bhuma Nagi Reddy passed away, the Opposition parties accused Chandrababu Naidu of having subjected Bhuma Nagi Reddy to immense stress as a result of which the latter had a stroke and died.

Naidu managed to offset the criticism by making Nagi Reddy’s daughter Bhuma Akhila Priya, a Minister albeit it was the post of Tourism Minister, not a very prestigious one. But Nandyal has once again come up as a major headache for Naidu.

Following the death of Bhuma who was the sitting MLA, a by-election needs to be held. Akhila Priya apparently told Naidu that it was tradition to give the ticket to the family of the deceased incumbent. As such, she wants someone from her family side to be given the ticket.

Strongly vying for the ticket is Silpa Mohan Reddy who had lost the last election to Bhuma Nagi Reddy. (Nagi Reddy was then in the YSRCP) and Silpa had strongly opposed the entry of the Bhuma family Into the TDP.

If denied a ticket now, there is every possibility of Silpa joining the YSRCP. And at the other end of the spectrum is senior TDP leader and former Minister Mohammad Farooq.

For the first time in its history, the TDP government has no minorities in its cabinet. Therefore, Naidu is facing some flak for it. Needless to say, this is one more headache that Naidu can do without.
