Nama To Quit TDP To Join Congress?

The Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, which is already beleaguered with the defection of several senior leaders and cadre into the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the Congress parties, is all set to receive yet another rude shock, going by the speculations doing rounds in the political circles.

According to these rumours, senior TDP leader and politburo member Nama Nageshwara Rao is likely to call it quits to the party and join the Congress party shortly.

He is understood to have discussed his future course of action with his followers and family members in the last two days and come to the decision to switch loyalties to the Congress.

Nama, who was the TDP’s parliamentary party leader during the UPA regime, was one of the richest MPs in the past.

He was representing Khammam parliamentary constituency. His Madhucon Infra has been a major constructions company in the country. So, Nama was also a big financial supporter for the TDP.

However, with the TDP losing its ground in Telangana and fast disappearing its presence, Nama, too, is of the view that there is no point in sticking to the party at this stage and it is time he should look for another political alternative. There is no use in going into the BJP which does not have any base in Khammam.

He cannot go into the YSRC either, as it has no presence in Telangana and all the party cadre moved into the TRS along with its MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

At the same time, he cannot even jump into the TRS because of Ponguleti and his arch rival Tummala Nageshwara Rao.

So, the only option before him is the Congress, which still has some presence.

The party is learnt to have assured him ticket for the Khammam Lok Sabha seat again. If the Left parties extend their support, he has the chances of winning the seat.

Hence, the decision.
