Naidu withdrew Covid advisory for Mahanadu?

The YSR Congress Party has strongly objected to the Andhra Pradesh government’s sudden withdrawal of its COVID-19 advisory, calling it a politically motivated move to facilitate the Telugu Desam Party’s grand Mahanadu event.

In an official statement, the YSRCP said, “This abrupt reversal raises serious concerns about public safety being compromised for political convenience.”

On May 21, 2025, the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare issued an advisory discouraging mass gatherings — such as prayer meetings, public events, and crowded spaces — citing rising COVID-19 cases in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. Though Andhra Pradesh had only a few reported cases, the advisory urged preventive caution.

However, just three days later, on May 24, the government abruptly withdrew the advisory.

According to the YSRCP, this U-turn was clearly to accommodate the TDP’s large-scale Mahanadu event.

“When health officials issue safety guidelines, why are they disregarded for political rallies?” the party questioned.

The YSRCP accused TDP leaders N Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh of prioritizing politics over public health, noting that their decision to move forward with a massive gathering shows “a complete lack of concern for people’s safety.”

“Will they take responsibility if COVID-19 cases rise in the coming days? Who will be held accountable if people fall ill after attending Mahanadu?” the statement asked.

The party concluded that public health should never be subordinated to political interests and warned that such actions not only undermine the credibility of official health advisories but also endanger countless lives.
