Naidu To Do Away With Rice Scheme?

Naidu To Do Away With Rice Scheme?

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appears to be contemplating discontinuing the welfare schemes introduced by the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy government in the past, particularly the subsidized rice scheme, in the name of austerity measures.

This was alleged by YSR Congress party spokesman K Parthasarathi on Monday. He said TDP MP JC Diwakar Reddy’s statement that a cup of tea costs Rs 5 while a kg of rice is being supplied at just Re 1, only reflects the fact that the State is preparing the ground to do away with the welfare scheme. This is not new to Chief Minister N Chandarbabu Naidu as he has done the same in the past too, Parthasarathi said.

He alleged that Naidu had the history of discontinuing welfare schemes and the Cabinet meetings had become avenues to promote the self-interests of the Ministers and not to discuss public issues, he said.

He pointed out the statement made by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission chairman that there are less opportunities in government and more openings in private sector and alleged that it was very clear that the real agenda of the State government was to do away with welfare schemes.
