The estimated cost of Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project, which was Rs 11,000 crore during the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy government, has gone up to Rs 16,000 crore in 2014, when Telugu Desam Party headed by N Chandrababu Naidu came to power.
Now, the project cost is said to have gone up to Rs 30,000 crore. While the AP government has projected such a huge cost escalation, the Central government headed by Narendra Modi has not raised any objection. Instead, it has agreed to bear the entire project cost.
“It looks like both Naidu and Modi are hand in glove in raising the project cost so that they can share the booty. Both of them are Mayala Fakirs, cheating the people and looting the public money,” Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N Raghuveera Reddy said.
He also lashed out at the Modi government for failing to curb black money despite 50 days of demonetisation.
“Modi is saying the demonetisation has plugged the flow of counterfeit currency. But even before the new currency reached the common man, terrorists had gained access to it and started producing the counterfeit new notes,” he alleged.
