Naidu Back To His Double-Tongue Attitude!

Naidu Back To His Double-Tongue Attitude!

Remember how Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu changed his tunes several times on the bifurcation of erstwhile combined Andhra Pradesh?

He gave a letter to Pranab Mukherjee committee giving a consent of the TDP for bifurcation and when it was actually done, he suddenly changed tune stating that the bifurcation was done against the wishes of the people.

While his party’s MPs in Andhra opposed it in the Parliament, the Telangana TDP MPs voted in favour of division. That was Naidu’s double tongue.

Now, Naidu is repeating the same tactics in the case of demonetisation. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation on November 8, Naidu claimed that it was because of his letter that the Centre had banned 500 and 1000 rupee notes.

His party posted on its Facebook page that the decision was a "victory for Chandrababu" over his fight on corruption. They went on to say that Naidu had been advocating scrapping of high value currency even when he was in the opposition. The party media cell dug out newspaper clippings dated back to June 2013 when Naidu raised the demand for the first time.

With the demonetisation backfiring on the government and the people started raising protests, Naidu suddenly changed the tune.

On Tuesday, Naidu said demonetisation was not what the people wished for, adding he was “still breaking his head” as a solution to the ongoing (currency) crisis remained elusive. "Demonetisation was not our wish but it happened. More than 40 days after demonetisation, there are still a lot of problems but yet there appears to be no solution," Naidu said addressing a workshop of TDP MPs, MLCs, MLAs and other leaders.

He blamed it on the banks for not preparing themselves for a transition to digital economy. "They are unable to even register banking correspondents," he added.
