Producer Naga Vamsi has been facing heavy trolling on social media following the disappointing results of films like War 2 and Mass Jathara.
Much of the backlash stems from the lofty claims he made ahead of War 2, which he distributed in the Telugu states, as well as his pre-release statements for Mass Jathara.
Adding to this, Kingdom, released last year, also failed at the box office. With three consecutive duds, Naga Vamsi has remained a constant topic of online criticism.
Like a few media journalists, Naga Vamsi has often courted attention on social media through controversial remarks and irresponsible statements made during press meets. Several of his videos went viral for the wrong reasons.
After these setbacks, many expected him to tone down his rhetoric, focus on stronger content, and handle the success of Anaganaga Oka Raju with greater humility.
However, he appears to be back to his old ways. At a recent press meet, Naga Vamsi once again indulged in hyperbolic talk and took indirect digs at fans and trolls.
Without naming anyone, he remarked that certain fan groups had been “doing duty” by trolling him over the past 72 hours and hinted at a “return gift” that would be announced soon.
“For the past 72 hours, all our fan boys have been doing the duty all over social media. You all know very well whose fan boys they are. I know very well what kind of return gift to give you and on what scale. We will announce all of that soon,” he said.
Many felt that such statements were unnecessary and only added fuel to online trolling.
By provoking fans and social media users yet again, Naga Vamsi seems more focused on drawing attention through over-the-top behaviour at press meets rather than letting his work speak for itself.
