Murder accused MLC likely to get bail?

YSR Congress party member of Andhra Pradesh state legislative council (MLC) Ananta Udya Bhaskar alias Ananta Babu, who was arrested by the police for the alleged murder of his former driver V Subrahmanyam on May 19, is most likely to get bail from the court.

On Friday, Ananta Babu moved the bail petition in the Rajahmundry metropolitan magistrate court stating that he deserved bail, as the prosecution could not produce evidence in the case. The bail petition is expected to come up for hearing on June 7.

Interestingly, the police have not so far taken Ananta Babu into custody for interrogation, though he was arrested by the police 10 days ago.

If the police can’t get his custody by June 6, his judicial remand will be completed and he will be entitled to get the bail, sources said.

There were allegations that the police were deliberately delaying in gathering evidences to produce in the court.

Though YSRC president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy got him suspended from the party, the police are still said to be lenient in taking action against the MLC.

During the post-arrest press briefing, too, the police said the legislator had pushed Subrahmanyam during an argument resulting in his fall and death.

They said Ananta Babu had inflicted injuries on Subrahmanyam's body to present it as a death in a road accident. However, the driver's family refused to believe his version.

The police are yet to disclose the post-mortem report submitted by the doctors. It is believed that Subrahmanyam died of severe internal injuries.
